ISHS Acta Horticulturae 444: III International Symposium on Kiwifruit

NUTRIENT SURVEY OF KIWIFRUIT (ACTINIDIA DELICIOSA VAR DELICIOSA HAYWARD) IN THE DISTRICT OF PIERIA IN NORTHERN GREECE

Authors:   P. Jastas, I. Therios
Abstract:
The aim of this research was to study nutritional status and fertilization of the kiwifruit plants in Pieria, the main kiwifruit producing area in Greece. For this purpose 111 kiwifruit orchards were randomly chosen. Leaf samples were collected from each orchard at July 20 from the 6th node after the last fruit. The leaf samples were analyzed for N, P and K. Also the units of N,P,K applied per 0.1 hectare (ha) were calculated. From this survey it is apparent that more than 50% of the growers apply 20–40 units N, 10–15 units of P and 20–40 units K/0.1 ha annually. Concerning inorganic composition of kiwifruit leaves, the average concentrations in most of the orchards were: N 2.00–2.60%, P 0.16–0.25% and K 1.30–2.20%. Nitrogen was applied mostly as ammonium sulfate, P as ammonium phosphate and K as potassium sulfate. In the kiwifruit orchards 20 fertilizers totally were used.
