Abstract:
Grafting between different botanical species has been a major improvement for most of the fruit crops.
Only a little work has been done for Actinidia species.
The aim of our work was to find out if a cold-resistant species could be used as a rootstock for Hayward.
Reciprocal grafting and budding between Hayward, Actinidia arguta, kolomikta, polygama, and deliciosa x arguta hybrids have been tested since 1986 in Montauban.
The unions between Hayward and arguta on both ways are short-lived.
After eight years only a few Hayward grafted onto kolomikta survive.
The interspecific hybrids are healthy as well as polygama onto Hayward.
But the frost damage experienced on the A. arguta rootstock under the actively-growing Hayward is disappointing
