STUDIES ON BENEFICIAL INSECTS FROM THE SUPERFICIAL STRATUM OF A WALNUT ORCHARD SOIL

Authors:   F. N. Ribeiro, C. Pinto de Abreu
Abstract:
Following the studies started in the active season we have done a lot of searches trying to identify the places where the beneficial insects spend the winter in walnut orchards.

The observations took place in the holes (soil and trees) dead leaves and fruits fallen on the ground.

The first results confirmed the relevance of Coleoptera and Heteroptera orders in these habitats.

The characteristics of the holes of the collected mummies observed on those leaves allow us to establish there are several beneficial insects that control the aphids in this walnut orchard.

We mention the occurrence of two new genera and two new species to Portugal, Holoparamecus singularis Beck (Coleoptera: Lathridiidae) and Alloeorhynchus putoni Kirkaldy (Heteroptera: Nabidae)
