WALNUT SELECTION IN MIDDLE TAURUS MOUNTAINS

Abstract:
Taurus mountains are one of the origins of walnut (Juglans regia L.) and it is grown by seeds in this area, so the walnut population on Taurus mountains contains millions of various walnut types.

The walnut population of these areas were determined in 1993 and the selection work has begun in 1994. The most important characteristics of the selection work are: lateral bud production, late bud break, and fruit qualities. As-2 (9.3 g) and Kam-12 (18.1 g) gave the best results for fruit weight. The highest kernel production was obtained from Klan-8 (57.39%), Kam-10 (56.01%), Kam-12 (56.35%) and Kam-9 (56.30%).
