ISHS Acta Horticulturae 441: V Temperate Zone Fruit in the Tropics and Subtropics

TEMPERATE ZONE FRUIT GROWING AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION OF TURKEY

Author:   N. Kaska
Abstract:
Mediterranean coastal areas are not only suitable for growing of subtropical fruits but most of the temperate zone fruits can be successfully grown here as well provided that their chilling requirements should be low. Several experiments were carried out in Adana, with apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, quinces and suitable cvs of these fruits species were determined.

Since the vegetation period is much longer in this area than any other parts of Turkey, nursery plant production if temperate zone fruits can be accomplished here within a very short time.
