ISHS Acta Horticulturae 441: V Temperate Zone Fruit in the Tropics and Subtropics

STUDIES ON VARIOUS CHILLING REQUIRING PEACH AND NECTARINE CULTIVARS UNDER SUBTROPICAL CONDITIONS

Authors:   A.B. Küden, F. Özmetli
Abstract:
Since the chilling requirements of the peach varieties are in a wide range, peach is one of best species that can be easily adapted to the different ecological conditions.

Various chilling requiring peach and nectarine varieties were investigated under subtropical conditions during 1994–1996. Two years results showed that Elegant Lady peach and Armking nectarine varieties were the earliest ones and followed by Springlady, Springcrest, Flavorcrest peaches and Maygrand, Summer Super Star and Springred nectarine varieties.

Maycrest and Redhaven peaches and Fairlane and Fantasia nectarines were the latest flowering ones. Elegant Lady among the peaches and Armking among the nectarines gave the highest yield per tree.
