EFFECTS OF SEQUESTRENE FE-138 AS FOLIAR AND SOIL APPLICATION ON YIELD AND EARLINESS OF SOME STRAWBERRY CULTIVARS IN THE SUBTROPICS

Authors:   N. Türemis, A.I. Özgüven, S. Paydas, G. Idem
Abstract:
This study was conducted to determine the role and importance of Sequestrene Fe-138 application on the yield and precocity of some strawberry cultivars grown in Southern Turkey. The plants were treated with 0.2 % and 0.4 % Sequestrene Fe-138 either as a foliar spray or a soil application.

The Aliso cv ranked first in yield approximately followed by Pocahontas, Cruz and Tioga. Tufts and Vista cvs produced more or less the same amount of berries. The higher yielding doses of Sequestrene Fe-138 and its administration sites in different cvs are as follow: Tufts, 0.2 and 0.4 % soil application, Aliso, 0.2 % foliar and 0.4 % soil applications. In Vista, Tioga and Pocahontas 0.4 % soil application of Sequestrene Fe-138 have given better yields than the other applications. It is surprising that Cruz cv responded negatively to the Sequestrene Fe-138 applications. In other words both doses and foliar or soil applications decreased the yield in comparison to that of control plants. Foliar application of Sequestrene Fe-138 to Tufts (0.2 %) and Vista (0.4 %) stimulated the precocity.
