PROPAGATION OF APPLES, PEARS AND PLUMS BY GRAFTED CUTTINGS

Authors:   A. Küden, H. Gülen
Abstract:
In this research carried out during 1992–1993 to obtain nursery plants by budded cuttings, MM 106 apple, Quince-A and Myrobalan-B plum rootstocks were used. Anna and Golden Dorset apple, June Beauty and Santa Maria pear, Santa Rosa and Formosa plum varieties were budded on them. 2500 ppm of IBA in apples, 500 ppm of IBA in pears and 2500 ppm of IBA in plums were applied to the November budded plants by chip budding and whip budding methods.

With the selected IBA concentrations, more than 80 % of rooting and more than 70 % of sprouting were obtained in the both budding metods.

In the chip budded and IBA applied cuttings, 91.3 and 118.2 cm, and in the whip grafted and IBA applied cuttings, 74.5 and 115.2 cm of plant height were determined in one year.

B. Hardy nursery plants budded on Quince-A rootstock, reached a suitable height to be budded in autum. Thus the opportunity of obtaining pear nursery plants with inter stocks in two years is performed.
