EFFECTS OF HYDROGEN CYANAMIDE APPLICATION AT VARIOUS TIMES, DURING DORMANCY ON PHENOLOGICAL STAGES AND FRUIT CHARACTERISTICS OF GRAPES

Author:   H.I. Uzun
Abstract:
Effects of hydrogen cyanamide (H2CN2) applications on the budburst, flowering, ripening, fruit characteristics and yield were investigated in field grown Cardinal grapevines under subtropical conditions in Antalya. H2CN2 was applied at 15 day-intervals between 15 September and 1 March. Chilling accumulation (<7°C) ranged from 0 to 708 hours during this period. Cyanamide applications advanced budbreak and flowering but not maturity. Yield decreased following early applications due to low temperatures during early shoot growth and following latest applications (one week before the natural budbreak) due to to the buds. There was little effect of cyanamide on berry and cluster parameters at harvest.
