EFFECT OF DORMANCY BREAKING AGENTS WITH ARMOBREAK IN THE PEACH

Authors:   A. Erez, Z. Yablowitz
Abstract:
The need for safe non toxic chemicals for use as rest-breaking agents led us to explore the potential of using the Armobreak, a fatty amine made by Akzo in The Netherlands, in addition to other dormancy breaking agents, on peaches. The use of oil-DNOC on peach, may soon be discontinued due to its toxicity, and Dormex often damages to flowers and hence reduces yields. We concentrated our efforts in two lines: 1. Testing combinations of Armobreak with KNO3. 2. Checking testing combinations of Armobreak with GA. Based on 3 years of trials Armobreak may allow reduction of concentration of other added chemicals and still show a positive effect, and could enhance markedly the effect of KNO3. A specific characteristic of this chemical is its ability to advance flowering, especially when used with low concentrations of other chemicals. This may lead to a better level of fruit setx due to reduced competition between the reproductive and the vegetative sinks, especially at the same node.
