EFFECTS OF SONIC WAVE UPON GROWTH OF ALGAE

Authors:   M. Hoki, K. Sato, A. Noro, M. Nakatani, I. Sugahara
Keywords:   biomass, microalgae, photosynthesis, skeletonema costatum, sonic wave
Abstract:
An experimental study was conducted to find out the effects of sonic wave on the growth of algae. Microalgae Skeletonema costatum was chosen and subjected to wave frequencies of 1k, 500 and 100 Hz during each lighting and dark period of 14 and 10 hours a day respectively. Initial growth of microalgae was significantly affected during logarithmic growth. Also the initial growth began earlier than the control. However, sonic wave of 1k Hz applied during dark period for 10 hours showed no significant difference compared to the control.
