GROWTH RESPONSE TO LATENT VIRUS INFECTION OF APPLE TREES ON SEEDLING ROOTSTOCKS |

| Abstract:
The chlorotic leaf spot virus (CLSV) and stem pitting virus (SPV) failed to produce measurable effects on 'Delicious' and 'Golden Delicious' cultivars grown on seedling rootstocks when inoculated into trees alone or in combination. Data obtained during a five year study showed that the level of seven plant nutrients in leaves and increases in trunk diameter of Delicious trees were not appreciably changed by these viruses. Similarly growth of 'Golden Delicious' trees, fruit yield and finish were not adversely changed. Development of internal bark necrosis was not associated with virus infection in this study. | |
