THE EFFECT OF BENOMYL ON THE SYMPTOMS OF APPLE PROLIFERATION |

| Abstract:
In an experiment with eight apple trees infected with apple proliferation in 1965, four trees were treated intensively with benomyl during the growing seasons of 1970, 1971, and 1972. On these trees only 6 out of 101 shoots developed witches brooms in 1971 compared with 24 out of 109 shoots on the four check plants. In 1972 the check plants produced 23 witches brooms, but the benomyl-treated plants not a single one. These results are a further indication that apple proliferation is not caused by a virus. In spite of the suppression of witches brooms no significant effect of the benomyl application on the growth of the diseased trees was observed. | |
