ISHS Acta Horticulturae 44: IX International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF PEACH TREE CLONE FREED FROM RING SPOT BY THERMOTHERAPY. STUDY OF RECONTAMINATION IN THE ORCHARD

Authors:   R. Bernhard, R. Saunier, C. Marenaud
Abstract:
The comparaison between the same genetic clone infected by ILAR virus and healthy (treated by thermotherapy) was studied during 8 years.

Important differences were observed between healthy and diseased trees for bud-take in the nursery, growth of trees, production of fruits, productivity index, quality of the fruits.

The natural recontamination of healthy trees by pollen of diseased trees was very low during the first five years; after, it increased quickly to 80 p. 100 at 8 years.

Incidence of recontamination was not important to fruit production and had little effect on growth.

ILAR viruses reduced the proportion of normal pollen grains, the rate of their germination, the elongation rate of the pollen tube.
