ISHS Acta Horticulturae 439: III International Strawberry Symposium

INVESTIGATIONS ON OPPORTUNITIES OF STRAWBERRY GROWING IN SACK CULTURE

Author:   A.I. Özgüven
Keywords:   Fragaria x ananassa, cultivation, production
Abstract:
In this study, 4 strawberry cultivars grown in sack culture were investigated for their earliness, yield and quality. The cultivars Tufts and Vista were the most productive.

In this experiment, the yields per plant were low because of winter planting. Overall yield per m2 is high due to increased plant density. The use of polythene tunnels increased the amount of early fruit.

These results suggest that the stony, rocky areas which are subject to erosion can become productive.
