Abstract:
The aroma components of amphiploids of F. vesca x F. x ananassa and F. x ananassa x F. nilgerrensis improved from interspecific hybrids by in vitro chromosome doubling method were analyzed by GC-MS. Major aroma compounds of F. x ananassa were methyl butylate, ethyl butylate, methyl butyric acid, acetic acid and 2,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxy (2H) furanone. F. vesca contained a high amount of ethyl acetate, but amounts of methyl butylate, ethyl butylate, organic acids and furanones were low. F. nilgerrensis contained a high level of ethyl acetate and furanone, but amounts of methyl butylate, ethyl butylate and organic acids were low.
Fragrance and aroma components of amphiploids were intermediate in F. vesca x F. x ananassa, while they resemble F. nilgerrensis in the F. x ananassa x F. nilgerrensis hybrid.
About fifty major peaks were isolated from each sample analyzed by GC-MS and classified by principal component analysis method.
Three parental species and their amphiploids were discriminated in the scatter diagram of principal components.
