Abstract:
The field behaviour of the first and second ex vitro generations of micropropagated ‘Chandler’ plants was studied during the period 1991–1994. Plants were multiplied in vitro in the N30K mineral formulation with 1.48 μM benzyladenine for 4 subcultures and rooted under in vivo conditions.
Explants were established in May-June and plants were acclimatized one year later.
After acclimatization the material was sent to nurseries, located in the highlands of the Central part of Spain and at sea level, to obtain the first and second ex vitro generations.
The field studies on fruiting behaviour were carried out at Trigueros and Moguer (Huelva) during 1993 and 1994. Neither in the nurseries nor in the fruiting fields were off-type plants detected.
Vegetative growth was normal and similar to the growth of conventionally propagated plants.
No differences were detected on average fruit size.
Differences in production were observed among plants multiplied in the different nurseries, independently of the multiplication method used.
