Abstract:
In 1991 and 1992 the study was conducted on phenological and pomological properties of 19 strawberry cultivars.
The experimental field was established at the locality Ljubic, ARI "Serbia", Fruit and Grape Research Centre, Cacak.
The following cultivars were used: Cesena (Italy), Cruz, Honeoye, Tufts, Vista (USA), Harvester (England), Hummi Eroma, Hummi Ferma, Senga Dulcita, Senga Fructarina, Senga Litessa (Germany), Karina, Tamella, Tenira (The Netherlands), L'Vovskaya Rannyaya, Kievskaya Rannyaya (Ukraine), and three standard cultivars (Cacanska Rana, Cacanska Krupna and Senga Sengana). Strawberries were planted on black polythene using a two-row raised bed system (47,620 plants/ha), and 300 plants of each cultivar were grown in three replicates.
The following parameters were studied: flowering and ripening, yield potential, cropping, soluble solids, pulp pH, total acids and fruit colour.
There were significant differences among the cultivars regarding flowering time and fruit ripening.
When compared to the other cultivars cv.
Senga Sengana showed significantly better yield potential and cropping, as well as better fruit colour, whereas cv.
Cesena had the largest fruits.
The greatest amount of soluble solids was recorded with cv.
Karina, and total acids were the highest in cv Cacanska Krupna.
The best results regarding cropping and fruit quality were obtained with cvs Karina, Senga Dulcita, Senga Fructarina, Tamella and Tenira, together with the standard ones.
