Abstract:
Bred twelve years ago, the short-day strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) cultivar Marabella has been observed under different conditions for the past six years, confirming our initial observations.
As with 'Elsanta', 'Pajaro', and 'Chandler', it has a short harvesting period and its high yields (700 to 1000 g/plant) very often are superior to 'Elsanta'. The good vigour of the plant and the firmness of the fruits permits spacing of its picking schedule (5 days) without risk, making this cultivar very appealing.
It would probably take the place of 'Elsanta' in regimes where ‘Elsanta’ suffer environmental injury, such as in the southwest of France.
