ISHS Acta Horticulturae 436: I International Persimmon Symposium

GRAFT-UNION BEHAVIOR OF PERSIMMON CULTIVAR ‘XICHU’ ON DATE PLUM STOCK

Authors:   S. Suriyapanont, V. Suriyapananont
Keywords:   anatomical study, date plum, Diospyros kaki, Diospyros lotus, graft union, persimmon
Abstract:
Details of persimmon stem anatomy and formation of the graft-union were observed during August 25, 1995. The scion cultivar ‘Xichu’ on Date Plum (Diospyros lotus) seedling rootstocks had visible differences between the component in the orderly arrangement of vessels, hairs and laticiferous canals.

The major structural events during the development of the graft-union can be described as follows : As a result of the graft incision, rupture cells collapsed at the graft interface to form a necrotic layer that initially separated the two graft partners. Cell division in both stock and scion occurred in callus formation at the graft interface among the fragment of the necrotic layer by 5–8 days after grafting. Cambial bridge differentiation leading to vascular continuity occurred across the graft interface by 9–10 days.
