Abstract:
Stem anatomy and anatomical development of the graft-union were studied during 20 September 1995 for cleft grafts of ‘Fuyu’ on ‘Xichu’ interstock. Visible difference in stems between the scion and interstock were papillae characteristic in ‘Fuyu’ and hairs with multicellular and multicellular with gland cells on epidermal layer of ‘Xichu’

The major structural events during the development of the graft-union can be described as follows : (1) Pre-callus, where 0–1 day after grafting, only stained brown substances accumulated on external wall of the exposed cell layers. (2) Callus, formation was found 1–4 days after grafting. (3) Callus bridge and new vascular bundle, proliferation of cambium from tissue near the cambium of both ‘Fuyu’ and ‘Xichu’, cambium bridge and formation of the new vascular tissue were then formed 4–6 days after grafting. (4) The healed union, where the new vascular tissue completely filled the spaced between stock and scion of the graft was found at 6–10 days after grafting.
