Authors:   H.E. Ouda, B.S. El-Menshawi, E.A. Omer, M. Shehata
Abstract:
The berries of endod (Phytolacca dodecandra L' Herit) are known to possess a potent molluscicidal properties due to their content of monodesmosidicsaponins. Attempts have been carried out in different countries, not including Egypt, to widen its application as ameans of combating schistosomiasis. Aiming to introduce a new source of natural molluscicide to Egypt, the seeds of endod have been introduced from Zambia and were subjected to different propagation methods. Plants derived from seeds, shoot cuttings and layerage are well growing under the Egyptian environmental conditions.
