PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS EFFECT ON ROOT-ROT INCIDENCE OF SWEET PEPPER GROWN IN GREENHOUSE

Authors:   M.A. Nofal, M.A.A. El-Naggar, Badeaa R. Ismail
Abstract:
Ethephone, GA and IAA were used as growth regulators (GR) for controlling the pepper root-rot fungi i.e., Pythium sp., Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Sclerotinia sp. The root-rot infection disease ranged from 3.8 to 42% at different sites. Pythium follwed by Rhizoctonia had higher frequency than the others. GR were more effective at 1200, 100 and 100 ppm for Ethephon, GA and IAA, respectively. Ethephone exceeded the others for the induction of the resistance against root-rot pathogens. Seed soaking treatment of GR solutions was the most effective one for controlling the pathogens. 24 hours of seed soaking was the most favourable time for resistance. Fungicides were effective during the early four weeks after sowing, where Ethephone treatment had a depression effect on fungal infection during the different periods of pepper growth.
