CALCULATION OF ACTUAL EVAPOTRANSPIRATION FOR CUCUMBER

Author:   A.M. El-Gindy
Abstract:
This study was carried out in 1992 and 1993 in Maryut area to estimate the most accurate values of the water consumptive-use of cucumber. Actual daily, monthly, and seasonal consumptive use were estimated and the seasonal values were 326.2, 293.4 and 272.5 mm under soil moisture tension of 0.35, 0.45 and 0.55 bar respectively. The calculated reference evapotranspiration values were 421.6, 375.4, 423.1 and 324.8 mm/season for Blaney Criddle, radiation, modified penman, and pan evaporation formulas which were higher than the actual values. Linear equations were derived from the obtained results to represent mathematical relation between the actual evapotranspiration ETpa and the calculated evapotranspiration ETp from the different formulas. The results indicated that the higher irrigation frequency was more efficient in maintaining the soil moisture content close to field capacity level and concurrently optimizing the yield as well as water utilization efficiency.
