BOWEN RATIO-ENERGY BALANCE ESTIMATES OF EVAPOTRANSPIRATION AND CROP COEFFICIENT FOR TOMATO PLANTS

Authors:   A.M.R. Abdel-Mawgoud, S.O. El-Abd, A.F. Abou-Hadid, T.C. Hsiao
Abstract:
Bowen Ratio-Energy Balance technique (BREB) was used to estimate evapotranspiration for tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) cv. Cample 136 in the Summer of 1994 in Davis, California. BREB system was installed in the field in the mid of the season. Daily evapotranspiration was estimated during the whole season using a computer model that depends in its calculation on potential evapotranspiration, day of the year expected maximum ground cover method of irrigation and time and number of irrigations. A comparison between the two ways was done for the second half of the season. A high agreement between the two methods was noticed for the second half of the season. Crop coefficient was calculated weekly according to each method and a comparison was made.
