Abstract:
A positive reaction in garlic, onion and shallot plants was observed by ISEM-D and DASELISA technique using an antiserum against onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV). Also a positive reaction was observed in garlic and leek plants when an antiserum against leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV) was used in ISEM-D technique.
LYSV was successfully transmitted by aphids and by mechanical inoculation from infected leek plants to healthy leek plants.
The virus was successfully purified from leek and an antiserum was raised from it.
Viral particles strongly decorated with carnation latent virus (CLV) and with positive DAS-ELISA reactions were detected in extracts from infected garlic plants.
In Argentina the 29% of garlic plants presented viral particles serologically related to CLV.
A viral isolate that is recognized by antisera from garlic latent virus (GLV, from Dr.
Graichen) and garlic yellow stripe virus but is not recognized by OYDV, LYSV, CLV, SLV and GLV (from Drs.
Osaki / Inouye) antisera was obtained from garlic plants.
No positive reaction was found in Argentinean garlic crops with garlic latent virus (from Drs.
Osaki / Inouye) and shallot latent virus (SLV) antisera.
Garlic plants, negative by ISEM-D with the antiserum raised against the garlic virus complex and also negative to the antisera mentioned above were obtained by thermotherapy treatment (36°C, 30/40 days) and meristem tip cultures with an efficiency of 62%.
