Abstract:
As an International Society for Horticultural Science, it is our aim to provide the scientific community with an accurate and up-to-date information on scientific results in the field of horticultural research.
It is therefore our wish to publish as soon as possible upon termination of the symposia, the proceedings of meetings organized under the aegis of ISHS.
Due to reasons beyond the control of ISHS, the proceedings compiled in this number of Acta Horticulture, suffered a serious delay in publication.
It is thanks to the continuous efforts of several of the participants that this work could be finalized at a moment that we gave up all hope on publication.
We wish to thank these persons caring for ISHS for their appreciated collaboration.

PREFACE
It was an honor and a big to effort organize the first Symposium on Edible Alliaceae.
More than 150 scientists had the opportunity to learn form each other and visit our country.
We wish to express gratitude to the institutions and persons who collaborate with the organization, specially to the staff of La Consulta and Mendoza Experiment Station (INTA) without whom this symposium would not have been materialized.
The content of these proceedings represents the contribution of the symposium participants to the development of Allium crops.
We hope to have the opportunity to participate in the Second Symposium on Edible Alliaceae, that will be the major success of the activity, because that will assure the continuity.
