A CARLAVIRUS IN FUCHSIA |

| Abstract:
A carlavirus, coded Fc2, was transmitted from fuchsia hybrids to Chenopodium amaranticolor and C. quinoa , on which it caused local lesions only. The virus was purified and an antiserum produced. In slide precipitin tests Fc2 was found to be serologically related to five established carlaviruses. DAS-ELISA was compared with Western blots and infectivity for the detection of Fc2 in commercial fuchsia cultivars. The virus was found in 59 plants out of 78 tested, from 32 commercial cultivars and in five fuchsia species. Fc2 is similar to fuchsia latent virus, a carla-like virus detected by electron microscopy in fuchsia in Canada. | |
