Abstract:
The effects of bulb selection of 'Apeldoorn' and 'Lustige Witwe' on the total and commercial yields were studied during two seasons.
Three methods of bulb selection were used during storage: segregation of bulbs (clusters of bulbs were segregated manually and only the A and B bulbs were chosen for reproduction), elimination of all low-weight bulbs by flotation and elimination of flat bulbs on grooved sieves.
The total and commercial yield of bulbs and the weight of the daughter A and B bulbs were evaluated each year.
The first method was most valuable but impossible to use for mass selection.
More practical ones were flotation and selection on grooved sieves.
