Abstract:
Dormant corms of Tigridia van houttei were used for induction of variability and to study the spectrum of mutations and to establish the optimal dose of radiation.
Gamma rays from a 60Co source served as the mutagenic agent.
The doses used were: 0, 5, 10, 50, 100 Gy.
Mutants for flower colour and patterns on flower petals, shape and size of flowers, architecture and vigour of plants were selected following irradiation with 5 or 10 Gy. 50 Gy damaged the plants, and 100 Gy was lethal.
