Abstract:
Several Ornithogalum species (fam. Hyacinthaceae, formerly Liliaceae) produce long lasting cut flowers and are grown commercially in the United States, Europe and Israel. Ornithogalum dubium, native to the southwestern cape province of South Africa, is one of the few yellow or orange flowering species in the genus.
Interest in growing O. dubium as a cut flower as well as a flowering pot-plant greatly increased in recent years. O. dubium is easily grown from seed; however, due to great variability in floral characters and high susceptibility to virus infection, an efficient in vitro propagation system was sought.
