Abstract:
It was found that benzyladenine (BA) applied in lanolin paste at concentration of 0.25% around the basal plate at the beginning of July caused the formation of parrot-like perianth in cvs. ‘Prof.
Wójcicki’ (Triumph), ‘Rhodes’ (Single Late), ‘Red Shine’ (Lily Flowered); ‘Amussment’, ‘Coxa’ and ‘Bonanza’ (Double Late). It is suggested that differentiation of the laciniated perianth after treatment of bulbs with BA is caused by more intensive pentose phosphate (PP) pathway.
Our hypothesis is that parrot mutants (cultivars) were formed as result of mutation connected with increasing level of endogenous cytokinins in comparison to their parental cultivars.
Differentiation of the laciniated perianth of parrot tulip cultivars is probably accompanied with more active PP pathway controlled by the cytokinins.
