ISHS Acta Horticulturae 43: Symposium on Cultivation of Flowers under Protection in the Mediterranean Regions

INFLUENCE OF CCC AND DARK PERIOD ON THE LENGTH OF THE STEM OF CHRYSANTHEMUM

Author:   J. Miranda de Larra
Abstract:
This work describes the floral stem development of "Graceland" and "Yellow Graceland" Chrysanthemums, grown as potted plants, treated:
  1. with CCC(2500 ppm) in one dose
  2. with CCC(2500 ppm) in two doses with a 15-day interval
  3. with an increase of dark period to 12,5 h by using black plastic.

The plants which were given a longer dark period showed an increase in the length of the stem in comparison with the untreated plants, and a decrease of length in those treated with CCC; one dose being more effective than two.

Neither a significant advance of the date of flowering nor a modification in the quality or quantity of the bloom was observed.
