ISHS Acta Horticulturae 43: Symposium on Cultivation of Flowers under Protection in the Mediterranean Regions

RELATIONS BETWEEN THE CLIMATOLOGICAL CONDITIONS AND THE CONTENT OF NUTRIENT ELEMENTS IN CARNATIONS GROWN IN GREENHOUSES

Authors:   M. Lasala, J. Cardus
Abstract:
The influence of three types of substratum, differing in content of organic matter, on the production and nutrient conditions of carnations Sim have been studied. The cultivation was in glass greenhouses, under Mediterranean weather conditions. The possible relations between climatological conditions and the content of nutritive elements have also been studied.

The results obtained show that the nutrition of the plants is similar for the three types of substratum tested. There is at times some relation between the absorption of certain elements, the illumination and the mean temperatures. The production tends to be higher when the organic matter content of the substratum increases, but this difference is not significant.

Variations of the equilibria N-P2O5-K2O and CaO-MgO-K2O in the leaves and cuttings have been studied.
