EVOLUTION, PROBLEMS AND TREND OF CUT FLOWER TRANSPORTATION IN ITALY |

| Abstract:
After a survey of the importance and spread of flower crops in Italy, which now cover an area of more than 8000 ha, some information about foreign trade is given. Particularly, the amount of flower export and the foreign countries interested in flower importation from Italy are mentioned. Data about transportation systems employed in recent years, considering advantages and characteristics of each system and indicating improvements and arrangements for the future are discussed. Most cut flowers were shipped by rail in the past; today they move by air, rail-bus and refrigerated trucks.This last system is becoming more and more popular for avoiding transfers from one carrier to another and the delays involved, which often cause problems of excessive heating or cooling. | |
