Author:   Daymon W. Thatch
Keywords:   Dissemination, Information system, Automation, Fourth generation language (4GL)
Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to report on a system developed to collect, transmit, analyze, and disseminate information using computer and telecommunications methods. Summary market auction prices and quantities for fruits and vegetables are reported daily to growers and other agriculture information users. The major benefits of the system are greater efficiency in terms of data collection, analysis and rapid dissemination of information, and the availability of more accurate, less costly data for research. Several years of data have resulted in commodity price/quantity analysis for yearly cycles as well as trend analysis.
