ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM: CITRUS FRUIT DEMAND ELASTICITIES IN GERMANY

Author:   M. Torres
Keywords:   Citrus fruit, Summer oranges, Winter oranges, Clementines, Tangerines, Demand analysis, Elasticities in AIDS model
Abstract:
This paper analyzes the citrus fruit import demand elasticities in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1974 and 1990. I use, as a tool, an almost ideal demand model, differentiating by geographic origin. The main hypothesis is that price is the most important factor to determine the import level of citrus fruit in the F.R.G. The results show that price is one of the main factors that explain import demand, but there are other factors, named "tastes," that also play an important role for assessing the commercial flows between exporters and importers.
