ISHS Acta Horticulturae 428: Ecological aspects of Vegetable Fertigation in Integrated crop Production in the Field

PLANT ANALYSIS IN VINING PEAS

Author:   S. Nyström
Keywords:   Pisum sativum, fertilization, boron, copper, manganese
Abstract:
In order to establish levels and variations for different nutrients, a survey in commercial vining pea fields in the south of Sweden was carried out during 1993 and 1994. Leaves from the first or second node immediately below the first flower bearing node were analysed when the crop was in the early bud stage.

The concentrations varied much between fields. In general, the concentrations of the various elements were above the critical limits for deficiency found in the literature with the exception of Mn and B. About 25 percent of the fields had concentrations below critical limits.

A comparison of different sampling times and sampling techniques showed that the influence was different for different elements.

Three field trials with leaf fertilization with Mn in fields with a low Mn content did not give any significant yield increase.
