ISHS Acta Horticulturae 428: Ecological aspects of Vegetable Fertigation in Integrated crop Production in the Field

INTEGRATED CROP PRODUCTION OF FIELD-GROWN VEGETABLES - A COMPARISON OF GUIDELINES FROM SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Author:   C. Gysi
Keywords:   integrated crop production, vegetables, guidelines
Abstract:
National guidelines for integrated crop production of field-grown vegetables are compared. Official, on-farm-controllable minimum requirements from Germany, Denmark, England, Sweden and Switzerland concern aspects of marketing, soil fertility, plant protection, weed control, pollution of products and landscape. Important differences in requirements emphasize controversial national opinions about the impact of agriculture on the environment, the economical situation of growers and the consumers' attitude. To compare integrated crop production within the European Union, standardisation of the guidelines is recommended.
