FLAVONOIDS FROM ACHYRANTHES BIDENTATA BC

Authors:   S. Nicolov, N. Thuan, V. Zheljazkov
Abstract:
Achyranthes bidentata BC. (fam. Amaranthaceae) is widely distributed in Korea, China, Vietnam and it has a wide application in the traditional (orthodox) and folk medicine of this region. The roots contain saponins and have a well defined expectorant, antiinflammatory, antipyretic, antirheumatic and diuretic activity.

The aim of the present investigation was to study the flavonoids compounds in the herb of the plant, because there is no information for the presence of flavonoids in the whole genus Achyranthes. Five phenolic compounds were established by 2-D paper chromatography (PC), of which 4 were isolated in pure state by column and preparative PC separation.

By determination of their melting points, PC comparison with authentic samples in different systems and UV - special analysis in methanol and other diagnostic shift reagents, these compounds were identified as: guercetin-3–0-rutinoside (rutin), guercetin -3–0-glucoside (isoguercetin), kaempferol-3–0-glucoside (astragalin) and caffeic acid.
