EFFECT OF PLANT SPACINGS AND NITROGEN LEVELS ON THE SEED YIELD OF DILLSEED (ANETHUM GRAVEOLENS L.)

Abstract:
An experiment was conducted at Student's Farm Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (India) during the. winter seasons of 1992–93 to 1994–95. The treatments comprised of three row spacings (30, 45, and 60 cm) three plant spacings (continuous, 10 and 20 cm) and four nitrogen levels (0, 60, 90 and 120 kg/ha). The experiment was conducted in split plot design having combination of row and plant spacings in main plots and levels of nitrogen in sub plots, with four replications. The soil was loamy sand low in the organic carbon, medium in phosphorus and high in potash.

The results revealed that seed yield decreased with increase in row spacing. The closer row spacing of 30 cm and 45 cm produced significantly more seed yield than wider row spacing of 60 cm. A spacing of 10 cm between plants out yielded the closer or wider spacings. Each increase in nitrogen level increased the seed yield upto 90 kg per hectare but the further increase in nitrogen did not affect the seed yield significantly.
