COMPARATIVE ANTIPLATELET ACTIVITY OF FOUR CULTIVATED ONION (ALLIUM CEPA) GENOTYPES

Authors:   I.L. Goldman, M. Kopelberg
Abstract:
Experiments were conducted to assess antiplatelet activity of four cultivated onion genotypes. Platelet inhibitory activity was determined via a platelet aggregation assay with human platelet-rich plasma. Relative in vitro inhibition of platelet aggregation was measured for each genotype. Dose-dependent inhibition was observed and measured for each genotype. Significant antiplatelet variability was detected among genotypes. Results from this investigation demonstrate variability for efficacy of the antiplatelet factor among onion genotypes and suggest onion cultivars may exhibit similar levels of antiplatelet variability.
