Abstract:
Three amide alkaloids of Piper nigrum L. such as piperine, pellitorine, 3,4-dimethyinenedioxycinnamoyl-piperidine, and ß-sitesterol were isolated from the ethanol extract, purified and identified.
Pharmalogical experiments showed that the ethanol extract had anticonvulusive, sedative, and analgesic activities to mice at the dosage level 2 g/kg orally.
LD50 of the ethanol and the water extracts to mice were respectively 12.66 and 424.38 g/kg converted into crude material.
