Abstract:
This paper is based on the results of a survey of twenty-one pineapple farmers in Trinidad, W.I., and describes their postharvest handling practices, including harvesting, field handling, sorting/grading, cooling, pest and disease infestation, packing/packaging, loading and transportation.
An assessment of the postharvest losses realized in the system and a summary of consumer acceptability of the main varieties cultivated, based on an organoleptic evaluation, are presented.
