Abstract:
The symphilid Hanseniella ivorensis and the plant-parasitic nematode Pratylenchus brachyurus are the two major pests of pineapple roots in Côte d'Ivoire.
These organisms influence root production and plant growth, hence causing important crop losses.
In pineapple production areas favourable to infestation by both H. ivorensis and P. brachyurus, H. ivorensis always develops before P. brachyurus. The parasitic activity of the nematode becomes significant only when the symphilid population is effectively controlled.
As far as the chemical control of pineapple nematode is concerned, these results tend to stress the need for another strategy when P. brachyurus is not the single limiting pest on roots.
