PINEAPPLE CROP DIAGNOSTIC IN LOS ROBLES, VERACRUZ, MEXICO

Authors:   J.L. Vizcarra, A.L. Del Angel, D.E. Uriza, J.J. Reyes, A. Rebolledo, R. Mosgueda
Abstract:
The results of a survey with 95 questions carried out in the main producer state of pineapple are discussed. 75% of the farmers are not members of any growers association and most of them pointed the months of May to August as the most critical of the period of crop over-production. The vegetative material is not given any phytosanitary treatment neither before nor after planting (95%). Pineapples are mainly planted in single rows (85%).The conclusions show that the planting material is not selected by types (although sometimes it is selected by sizes). The growers should use fertilizers more efficiently, as in the way they are doing it, either overdosage of deficiency are noticed. Growers are not organized neither for production planning, nor for input purchasing and fruit exporting; they are also not aware of the requirements of international markets and the advantages of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
