Abstract:
Preplant control of nematodes in pineapple fields with EDB, DD92, cadusafos (ec) and aldicarb was evaluated in two trials differing only in planting date : June (dry season) and October (wet season). Aldicarb was also applied after planting at the time of root formation and canopy formation.
In the June planting, root formation occurred 13 weeks post plant, while in the October planting rooting was already evident 3 weeks post plant.
Cadusafos and aldicarb showed an inhibiting effect on root formation.
First nematode infestation occurred 4 – 5 months post plant in both plantings.
Aldicarb applied at root formation gave longer control than the fumigation treatments in the June planting.
Plant growth was best in the fumigation treatments, followed by aldicarb post plant and cadusafos.
In the June planting, preplant application of aldicarb showed little difference compared to the control (no nematicide treatment), whereas in the October planting, nematodes were controlled due to the faster root formation.
