Abstract:
Pineapple has been a profitable crop on acid sulphate soils in the Mekong Delta.
However, little attention has been paid to cultivation practices.
The effects of P, K, and lime on pineapple yield were investigated in a severe acid sulphate soil (Typic Sulfaquepts) at Tan Lap state farm, Tien Giang province.
Phosphorus played an important role in increasing yield (from 35.5 t ha-1 to 44.7 t ha-1 for 'Queen'). The highest yield obtained was 5 g P2O5 plant-1 for 'Queen' and 7 g P2O5 plant-1 for 'Smooth Cayenne'. Lime application resulted in depressing Al uptake in D-leaves. 'Smooth Cayenne' increased fruit weight significantly at 1 t lime ha-1 in combination with 7 g P2O5 plant-1. For 'Queen', there was no response to lime application.
The highest fruit weight was found in the treatment of 12 g K2O plant-1 which was significantly different from the treatments of 8 g and 10 g K2O plant-1.
Flower induction stage at 12 and 13 months old (plant age) did not affect the fruit weight.
