Abstract:
Supplying over a long period regular and adequate amounts of the necessary nutrients under intensive pineapple monocropping makes it possible to restore and maintain the fertility of the poor and acid ferrallitic soils of southern Côte d'Ivoire.
The fertilizing mode showing positive and long-lasting effects, together on the physical and chemical properties of cultivated soils and on fruit and ratoon production, consisted of mineral fertilizer associated with organic manure.
Therefore it appears necessary to look for new alternatives of organic manuring for the cultivated soils of the humid forest of southern Côte d'Ivoire, where intensive livestock farming is not included in agricultural practice.
This precaution is unavoidable for proper management of this type of soils which is known as very poor in organic matter.
