Abstract:
Ribosomal genes are highly repetitive and clustered in tandem arrays throughout the genome.
Every repeat unit is structured into three very conserved coding segments (18S, 5.8S, and 25S) and an intergenic spacer (IGS), generally very variable inter- and intraspecies.
As a follow-up to a preliminary study on 21 clones restricted by two endonucleases, we undertook a more complete analysis of 92 representative clones of the principal genetic groups or varieties of pineapple.
These clones are part of the CIRAD-FLHOR collection in the French West Indies (Martinique). Eight restriction endonucleases were used in this study.
The hybridization probe was pTA71, a fragment of rDNA isolated from wheat.
Six groups could be identified, highlighting genus Ananas as being very homogeneous based on rDNA analysis.
